Since UK ring-fencing took effect in July 2018, it has been the group's non-ring-fenced bank. HSBC UK Bank plc carries out the group's UK retail and most UK commercial banking. The bank traded as Midland Bank until September 1999, when it was renamed HSBC Bank plc.
